Nocturnal bird Caprimulgus europaeus, with a
large bristle-fringed gape that catches moths
and other flying insects in the air. About 28
cm/11 in long, it is patterned in shades of
brown, and well camouflaged. It is a summer
visitor to Europe, and winters in tropical
Africa.
